Group therapy is different from conventional weight loss groups in that the leader is not there to boss you about. It's about the process of interaction between the members, and the leader is there to emphasise and suggest.
Hope
Many of us are pessimistic about the possibilty of change, but a group contains people at different stages, and the people that have made changes provide hope to those of us just starting out.
You are Not Alone
We can often feel that our problems are different from everyone else's, but you don't have to be in group therapy for long before you realise many others have the same concerns.
The Feel-Good Factor
It's nice to meet up, share the load, help others, and know that you can change how you are in the world.
Family Values
It's funny how the group can feel almost like a nurturing, helpful family.
If your family was like mine and somewhat less than perfect, the power of the group 'family' can help you undo some of the damage done when you were growing up.
Ripples in a Pond
Often in group therapy, one person makes a change and that change ripples out - other people make the same change.
